Microsoft Aren’t Making Life Easy for Themselves
Confusion currently surrounds the new Microsoft operating system – Windows 7 – and it appears that things are just going to get even more complicated.
The first issue came with the news that the new platform would not be available with a browser for much of Europe. This obviously makes things difficult for PC users, as they would need to have a browser saved on an external device in order to install it after installing Windows 7 itself. This is a real task for many people, particularly those who don’t really know what a browser is.
However, it now seems to be the case that Microsoft has made a U-turn on this decision since it may ship the new software with a choice of browsers from now on.
In a world where Google is trying its best to capitalise on any errors (and enter any market that even remotely suits its business model), Microsoft are extremely unwise to make things more confusing for its – still loyal for the moment – customer base.
All users want things to be easy and considering that many are not comfortable with software installations as it is, Microsoft are in serious danger of alienating people who are starting to see the potential benefits offered by the likes of Google and Apple.
Windows 7 simply cannot become the next Vista, in terms of poor launch and poor reputation, if Microsoft wants to continue as the leader in this space.
