The Future of Education
Education is an essential part of our world. From an early age, the need to have a proper education is drilled into us and over time we are moulded into beings who aspire to be educated to the highest degree possible.
Regardless of state-funded education – and the grants that are available to people in different countries – there are always associated costs with being educated. And in later life, when it comes to a University education, the costs increase far more.
It used to be the case that only a very small proportion of people would be able to afford the opportunity to have a proper university education. Now nearly half the UK population go to university.
The question is: what will happen to education in the future as advances in online technology progress? There are now certain universities in America which are streaming lessons and tutorials over the internet. Obviously universities and colleges use the technology available to them in many ways in terms of providing online content. However, the online content and website features provided are only available to students who have paid the fees to be on a course at the university.
Streaming real lessons and learning environments is a major change. It doesn’t really cost the universities much to stream the modules, except of course, if people were to stop going to university and instead chose to learn online.
The possibilities available from online education are almost infinite. Generating revenue will be the first question on most people’s mind. But if the reach can be extended then the options for generating revenue are far greater. Online education could open doors to those who had never dreamed of the opportunity of attending a university.
The shake-up in the world of education could be massive. The options are not yet known and the ways of making everything sustainable are again, not clear at this point. However, it is definitely the case that within a relatively short period of time, the potential of the internet for education will be realised and it will most probably change the world forever.
