Will Improved A-Level Results Translate to Better Modern Employability?

August 20, 2009 | No Comments | Posted In : Industry News

The A-Level results are out today and, as has been the case for the past 20 years, the results are better than the previous year.

Even though results are improving and more people are expected to go to university than ever, does it mean that young people are better prepared for the reality of employment in the modern world?

Technology is driving business forward and an understanding of that technology is vital. Many employers are not sure whether students are ready for the working world. Schools cannot possibly teach someone to be entirely prepared for employment; the environment is all wrong and the tasks one is required to complete in working life cannot be replicated easily.

The online world – and the advances within it – is one area students will learn more about in their own time than during school time. However, they will probably find that they don’t learn about the things that will be useful to them later on when in employment.

Online marketing is a big area and one which is not explored within the learning environment. Even if it was, it would be very difficult for the curriculum to keep up with the rapid changes seen in the online environment.

Education will move forward in the years to come – in part through the advances in technology. When the powers of the internet are truly realised, it may be that more training and learning options are made available online.

A curriculum could become more dynamic and tutors won’t need to adapt regularly as the flexible and ever-changing tutorials will be delivered by an outside source capable of teaching the most relevant and modern content as the changes occur in the real world.

A constantly changing learning program will not sit well with educational organisations but really it is the only way for students to learn things which will keep them in touch for when they enter full-time employment. Training costs will also be reduced, thus increasing productivity and improving overall output.
