Can Windows Phone Catch Up in Time?

Microsoft know that they missed the boat…but. They now feel that they successfully compete in the smart phone market with their new mobile operating system.

They’re calling their new operating system Windows Phone. They have moved away from using numbers as they feel that people don’t care about what version of software is on their device.

Calling the operating system ‘Windows Phone’ obviously bears resemblance to the iphone. And it is the iphone that they are trying to catch up with, as well the Blackberry and Android devices. Microsoft have apparently done extensive research on what people want from mobile devices, and also what Apple and Blackberry are doing to win more market share.

They have a lot of work to do to catch up with the booming smart phone and applications market. Although many buy the iphone and Blackberry, not because they know of the operating system, but because they want the device, once people start using the operating systems built into those devices, they soon become accustomed to them. This has meant that Microsoft has lost out in many areas.

Microsoft have had many issues with their Vista computer operating system. They now say that their main focus is Windows 7, the latest operating system for personal computers. Windows 7 has so far been received positively and they are hoping that any future mobile operating system that they come up with will be received with similar acclaim. Windows 7 could actually make their mobile proposition far more appealing.

Although Microsoft has lagged behind on the mobile scene, they have the commercial clout to give them a fighting chance to come back. Mobile phone manufacturers will be keen to look at their new system as many have lost out in a big way to Apple and RIM.

Windows Phone will be available on a range of devices which means that its reach will be far greater, initially, so maybe they will not pay too high a price for their previously poor planning and preparation.
