Tesco provides more choice for iPhone customers
Tesco has announced the details of its iPhone tariff, in the process revealing that it will become the first company to offer the phone on a 12 month contract rather than an 18 month contract or pay-as-you-go plan, which are the two options currently available on O2 and Orange.
Prior to Tesco’s announcement, there had been plenty of hype surrounding the potential details of their tariff, with consumers excited about the possibility of getting their hands on the handset from Apple at a cut price which wouldn’t cripple their bank accounts. Undoubtedly many customers, particularly those who appreciate the advantages of a more short-term contract, will have been left smiling after Tesco revealed that both the iPhone 3G and the iPhone 3GS will be available from £20 per month, which makes it the lowest monthly contract price in the market in Britain.
Despite the announcement from Lance Batchelor, the chief executive officer of Tesco Mobile and Tesco Telecoms, stating that the “iPhone is now available and affordable for all”, bank balances are still likely to feel the strain from this arrangement, with the 3G phone costing a hefty £222 to purchase with the 12 month contract. The 3GS phone is almost £100 more expensive than the older model. For those who prefer a pay-as-you-go arrangement, the older model will cost £342, whilst the 3GS will set customers back a total of £440.
Customers will be able to take advantage of Tesco’s deals from Monday onwards in the supermarkets, meaning that anyone wanting to purchase the iPhone as a Christmas gift will be offered this additional level of choice at just the right time.
