It was the story that had everyone talking yesterday: the launch of Google’s new smartphone, the Nexus One. Speculation mounted throughout the day that Google were preparing to reveal the details of the model and, in the end, attendees at an invitation-only event at Google’s Mountain View HQ were the first to see the Nexus One in action.

So, after such a momentous event for the web company, we thought it would be a good time to take a look at the details of the phone which will undoubtedly stick around in the headlines of the world’s press for a while to come.

Here are the basic facts and figures that consumers should know about Google’s Nexus One, which has been branded a superphone by the search company:

• Built in partnership with Taiwanese manufacturer HTC, powered by a Snapdragon processor and utilising the functionality of Google’s own Android operating system, the model boasts a 3.7 inch touchscreen, slim design and feel, and a 5 Megapixel camera complete with LED flash
• Additional features include noise cancellation technology and voice recognition, which can be used alongside all applications
• Consumers will be able to purchase the phone directly from Google at a cost of £331 and it will also be made available in the US on T-mobile. British consumers will eventually be able to experience the Nexus One on Vodafone, with other networks expected to follow suit fairly quickly as a result of the non-exclusive agreement between Google and Vodafone
• One of its major selling points is the ability to purchase a model before choosing which sim card to insert
• Google is planning on using the phone to launch “pay to call” adverts which work in a way similar to their sponsored advertising model used on numerous websites, which their business model currently revolves around
